A quick update: this week, we’re scheduled to send a BackerKit survey smoke test to 5% of backers. This helps us make sure everything is working smoothly before the wider survey rollout.
We’re also excited to share that the latest upgrade is looking beautiful. We’ve included a short video below so you can see it taking shape.
Thanks to your incredible support and patience, we’re able to offer this completely optional upgrade for just $20, even though its actual cost is much higher.

First of all, thank you for all of your comments and feedback over the past day.
After reading through your messages, it is clear that our previous update caused a great deal of confusion, and that is on us.
Many of you came away with the impression that the improvements we have been discussing throughout development were only available as part of a paid upgrade — or worse, that backers who choose not to upgrade would receive a product that we ourselves considered inadequate.
That is not the case.
We want to clarify exactly what every backer will receive.
Every Backer Will Receive the Improved VersaCarve
Throughout development, we continued refining VersaCarve based on engineering testing, manufacturing validation, and product testing, as detailed in our previous updates.
These improvements are included for every backer at no additional cost:
These improvements have already been incorporated into the production version that every backer will receive.
You are not receiving an unfinished or defective version of VersaCarve.
What Is Included in the Optional PRO Upgrade?
The optional PRO Upgrade is intended for backers who would like upgraded versions of the PowerGRIND and SolderPRO tools.
Everything else shown in the comparison chart is already included with the Improved VersaCarve that every backer will receive.
All of the VersaCarve improvements listed above are already included at no additional cost. The optional PRO Upgrade applies only to the upgraded PowerGRIND PRO and SolderPRO MAX tools.
Why This Caused Confusion
Looking back, we realize that our previous update combined all of the improvements into a single comparison without clearly distinguishing between:
As a result, many of you understandably believed that you needed to pay extra to receive the engineering improvements we had been discussing over the past several months.
Our use of the phrase “original design” also contributed to the confusion because it did not clearly distinguish between the early campaign concept and the improved production version that every backer will receive.
That was never our intention, and we apologize for not communicating this more clearly.
Upgrade Pricing
Many of you also asked us to be transparent about the upgrade cost instead of waiting until the BackerKit survey.
We agree.
The optional VersaCarve PRO Upgrade will cost US$20.
We want everyone to have this information upfront so that you can make an informed decision before completing your survey.
